Effect of Oil Pulling to Relieve the Constipation among Adolescent Girls in Womens Hostel, Coimbatore

ABSTRACT:

The effect of oil pulling to relieve the constipation among adolescent people. Quasi experimental design one group with pretest and post test design was adopted for this study .convenient sampling of 10 adolescents girls with moderate and severe stages of constipation were drown as sample for the present study The paired test was used to assess the effective of oil pulling among adolescents girls in Women’s hostel. The mean of pretest and post test was 6.2 and 3.4 respectively. The ‘t’ value was formed to be 7.203 and there is a significant difference in the Constipation level..thus the oil pulling to retrieve constipation among adolescent girls in women's Hostel, Coimbatore was an effective.

INTRODUCTION:

Oil pulling is said to be a powerful mean of maintaining good health as well as an effective cure for a variety of illness. This is an ancient technique, first described in 5000 years old ayurvedic texts. Early morning soon after wakening, before eating or brushing your teeth, mouth with a spoonful of high quality oil in order to “pull” bacteria parasites and other toxins from your body.

 

People believe that the therapeutic effect and science behind oil pulling is the absorption of toxins and chemical through blood vessels in the mouth and tongue as well as sublingual transmucosal absorption of a fatty acids.

 

Constipation is normal bowel movements frequently varies from three bowel movements daily to one bowel movement every 3 days. Constipation can be defined as a decreased in frequency of bowel movement from what normal from the individual hard difficult to pass stools.

A decrease in stool volume and or retention of feces in the rectum since individuals very it is important to compare current symptoms which the patients normal pattern of elimination. Change in bowel habits many also indicate bowel obstruction produced by a tumor.

 

Common cause of constipation include insufficient dietary fiber inadequate fluid intake decreased physical activity opioids caused constipation. Constipation slow GI transit and humper neurologic function such as diabetes mellitus. Parkinsons disease and multiple sclerosis emotions effect of GI tract and both depression and stress can contribute to constipation.

 

Studies have shown that after just 45 days of oil pulling in 100 old age people there is significantly reduce in constipation (30%), allergies(49%, arthritis (9.48%) water retention (11.5%) in oil pulling oil combined with the salivary alkali starch to saponifi oil or turn into soap removes wastes through the taste buds and studies also show lower bacterial count after oil pulling (Mint and Chill, 2011)

 

 

Oil pulling has been used extensively for many years without scientific evidence or proof as a traditional folk remedy to prevent teeth decay, oral malodour, bleeding, gums, cardiac disease, constipation, allergy, digestive problems. The aim of the study to evaluate the effect of oil pulling with mutans in plague and saliva of children to evaluate the personal well being among children. The age matched adolescents boys were selected based on information obtained through a questionnaire. They were divided randomly into two groups. The Control Group I and oil pulling was compared with Group I (33.5%) and Group II (64.4%). The result was oil pulling can be used as an effective preventive agent in maintaining and improving health. (Asokan, 2008)

 

NEED FOR THE STUDY:

Karach (1991), he proposed oil pulling in a conference of oncologists and backriologist. Academy of science UDSSD. Sipping and sucking oil in the mouth is a fantastic biological healing process. Results of healing process cause astonishment and doubts and by practicing on can see the results in one’s own body and get convinced. It is totally harmless and simple. Different illness could be totally harmless and simple. Different illness could be totally cured without surgery or medicines. This heals cells. tissues and all other organs at once by removing the germs in the mount that cause destruction of organs.

 

Survey was conducted by Andrajyothi the Telungu Daily, in India 1996. To find out the types of disease cured and effectiveness of oil pulling. Out of a total of 1041 respondents 927 (89%) reported cure of one or more disease. People who diet not report any were 114 (11%). They analysis indicated cure of the many type of chronic disease by oil pulling.

·        Pain in body 758 cases

·        Allergy and respiratory problem 191 cases.

·        Skin problem 171 cases

·        Digestive system 153 cases

·        Constipation 110 cases

·        Arthritis and joint pains - 91 cases

·        Heart disease and BP - 74 cases

·        Diabetes 56 cases

·        Piles 27 cases

·        Disease pertaining to female reproductive system 21 cases

·        Disease like polio, cancer, leprosy, polycystic kidney, neural fibroid, paralysis 72 cases (Andhra Jyoti, 1996)

 

Oil pulling cured at least once chronic disease including respiratory problems, skin conditions, joint pains, allergy, constipation and diabetes one of the first outward signs of this remedy is on the teeth. It can eliminate bleeding gums and faster loose teeth. (Nuthakki Venkateswara Rao, 1996).

 

The Ayurvedic purification of taste buds also has its equivalent in diabetes as "antioxidants" oxidation literally means the purification of body tissue and oil soluble Vitamins A, C, D and E are antioxidants that protect and prevent the decaying process and help maintain the integral functioning of cell membrane. That's why many people are ingesting vitamin E pills to stem " ageing (oxidation) (Deepak Chopra, 1993).

 

The primary goal of this study reduces the constipation level in adolescent girls. In a way severe constipation leads to many complicating diseases. GI problems, humpur neurological function such as diabetes mellitus, Parkinsons disease and multiple sclerosis, emotional effect or GI tract and both depression and stress can contribute to constipation. Since allopathy medicines has many side effects. Ayurvedic method of oil pulling get rid of constipation, oil pulling is daily hygiene habit which is both preventive and curative of diseases many studies proved that this method is very effective.

 

STATEMENT OF THE PROBLEM:

Effect of oil pulling to relieve the constipation among adolescent girls in Sri Ramakrishna Womens Hostel, Coimbatore

 

OBJECTIVES:

·        To assess the constipation among adolescent girls.

·        To apply oil pulling to adolescents girls with constipation

·        To reassess the effect of oil pulling among adolescents girls.

 

CONCEPTUAL FRAME WORK

System theory is the interdisciplinary study of system in general with the goal of elucidating principles that can be applied to all types of system at all nesting levels in fields of research.

 

INPUT:

Input refers to the matter, energy and information received from the environment. In this study the input refers to the assessment of level constipation in adolescents girls.

 

THROUGH PUT :

Matter, energy and information that is modified or transformed within the system. Here the through put involves application of oil pulling among adolescents girls.

 

OUTPUT :

Matter, energy and information that is released from the system into the environment. The output refers to reassessment of effectiveness of oil pulling among adolescents girls.

LITERATURE REVIEW:

Oil pulling therapy was introduced to around 150 women’s workers in the factory. They report to the factory in the morning between 6 to 7 am. The benefits of the therapy were explained. Oil was distributed to them free of cost. After 25 days ascertained their impression regarding oil pulling results. It produces on their body. Oil pulling curs various type of aliments collected their opinion under the bases of four categories very good, good, average, no effect. The result of 144 workers who have done oil pull for 40 days very good 23(16%), good 58 (40%) average 56 (39%) no effect 7(5%).

 

Experiment with the oil pulling therapy for any common disease like cold. Sneezing, migraine headache, cough, pains, constipation and see the results in your body within a short period you will get convinced (Balasubramanyam, 2005).

 

Oil pulling is curious and ancient folk remedy recommended by Ayurvedic physicians without any scientific proof of Its efficacy to prevent intestinal problems. Oil pulling adapted both groups. Group 1 and group II. The researcher found a reduction in the level of constipation and oil pulling can help to maintain overall health(Well, 2008).

After 2 weeks the efficacy of oil pulling was compared with group I (33.5%) and group II (64.4%).The result was oil pulling can be used as effective preventive adjunct in maintaining and improving health (Asokan, 2008).

 

 

 

The oil pulling function in a cleaning agent which is magnesia in the mouth when swished pushed and pulled through teeth. If pulls daubers bacteria, fungi viruses, mucus and toxin from the body. ie. oil pulling significantly reduced their number when helps to improve the overall health condition of practitioners. In analysis of more than 1000 practitioners, there were cured allergies (191) constipation (110) Digestive problems(155), skin problems (171), respiratory problems(191), blood pressure (74) cold and head ache (658), result of oil pulling is one of the most effective end inexpensive healing methodologies or practice addressing wide range of health consumers in world of preventive medicine(Bruce, 2011).

The effect of oil pulling on the reducing of constipation was determined. There was remarkable reduction in the constipation. Sesame oil was used in this study – persons who had constipation were selected before oil pulling they were instructed to wash their mouth with saline. After 40 days oil pulling assessed the level of constipation. The result of these studies shown the antioxidance effect of sesame oil. The average reduction of constipation was 30% after 40 days of oil pulling. There were the sesame oil is found to be effective in reduction of constipation (Duri Anand, 2009).

 

RESEARCH METHODOLOGY:

Research design:

Quasi experimental design one group with pretest and post test design was adopted for this study.

 

Setting:

The study was conducted in Women Hostel Coimbatore which is situated in the hospital premises itself. Students from Pharmacy, Physiotherapy, Arts and Science and Nursing are staying in hostel.

 

 

Criteria for sample collection:

Inclusive Criteria:

Adolescent girls with Mild, moderate and severe constipation  and Adolescent girls who are staying in hostel

 

Excusive Criteria:

Adolescent girls who are not taking Medications for constipation  and Adolescent girls selected for pilot study.

 

Sampling and sample size:

Convenient sampling of 10 adolescents girls with mild, moderate, and severe stages of constipation were drown as sample for the present study.

 

Tool for data collection:

The tool which consists of two parts. Part A States that Demographic data of samples like age And course. Part B Represents the constipation assessment scale. The scoring was given to each options None '0', some '1', severe '2'.The total score was '16'.

 

Data analysis and interpretation:

Totally 10 samples are chosen and study was conducted at Sri Ramakrishna Women’s Hostel, Coimbatore. Constipation was assessed by using constipation assessment scale. 10 ml of oil was given to each participant. Post test was done by using same assessment scale.

It reveals that 30% of the samples were at the age of 19 years, 30% of the samples were at the age of 20 years and 40% of the samples were at the age of 21 years.

It reveals that 20% of the samples are studying in B.Sc (N) II year, 20% of the samples are studying in B.Sc (N) III year, 50% of the samples are studying in B.Sc (N) IV year and 10% of the samples are studying B. Pham.

The mean value for pre test was 6.2. The value for standard deviation for pre test was 2.48. The mean value for post test was 3.4. The value for standard deviation for post test was 1.6248. The mean difference is 2.80. ‘t’ test was used to test the significance of mean difference in the reduction of constipation level in adolescent girls. The calculated ‘t’ value 7.2031 is greater than the table value at 0.01 level of significance. This shows that there is a significant difference in the mean level of pre test and post test score. Thus the oil pulling to retrieve constipation among adolescent girls in Women’s Hostel, Coimbatore, was an effective.

 

 

 

 

RESULTS AND DISCUSSION:

30% of the samples were at the age of 19 years, 30% of the samples were at the age of 20 years and 40% of the samples were at the age of 21 years.

 

20% of the samples are studying in B.Sc (N) II year, 20% of the samples are studying in B.Sc (N) III year, 50% of the samples are studying in B.Sc (N) IV year and 10% of the samples are studying B. Pham.

 

The paired test was used to assess the effective of oil pulling among adolescents girls in Women’s hostel. The mean of pretest and post test was 6.2 and 3.4 respectively. The ‘t’ value was formed to be 7.203 and there is a significant difference in the Constipation level.
